There are 2 types of wind: westerlies and trades.

Westerlies blow from west to east at a latitude of 35 to 60 N or S. If you live in Beijing, you will find most of the wind are from the northwest.

Another type is trade. Because of the earth dip 23 and a half degree, the sun moves from 23 and a half degree north and south and it causes the trade wind.

In summer, the wind comes from south west to north east and in winter, from north east to south west.

The wind pattern allowed international trade, so we call it trade wind.

Antitrade is you go against the trade wind. For instance, in winter, you go from Malaysia to China, against the wind.
