我这样译可以吗？one's people have a face and tree have a bark
中国的谚语翻译一般不会字对字的翻译。因为外国人心眼比较直，如果直是字面翻译，人家可能看不懂~
记得以前看过一则报道，举例不同国家对中国成语“遥遥无期”的翻译，希望能给楼主些起示。
1、母猪生小牛
2、母猪穿着脱鞋去爬树
3、雨点把巨石凿穿

英语不好弄啊。 老牛吃嫩草，英语能翻译成 Rob the cradle（抢劫摇篮）

Literally: a person needs a face; a tree needs bark.
Meaning: a person needs a clean reputation to survive.
Note: Face here is used metaphorically as the face (social custom).
