做动词时，有以下两种情况：
1 及物动词
此时，grow的意义
(1)为使……生长；培养：
如grow tulips. 培育郁金香

(2)使自然生长：使（东西）依自然进程而发展或增加：
如grow a beard.留胡子

这时及物动词在被动时就有了“被种植”之类的意思了。

2 不及物动词
此时，grow的意义
（1）生长，成长：自然进程中体积的增加
（2）能够生长；茁壮生长：
如Some plants grow in deep shade.
有些植物能够在阴暗中生长

当然，grow还有其他许多意义。

作为副词是已经种植而且成活后的自然生长
做动词时有种植栽培的意思
