A long-term and responsible perspective on consumption -
As confirmed in Johannesburg, we must take action to change our behavior in terms of consumption and production. So far, reactions to the challenges posed during the last century´s rapid economic expansion has been short-term and lacking in sustainability. The wealthy segment of societies must take the lead to change the way in which goods and services are produced and used. It is necessary that we act if we should have reason to hope that others will follow suit.

At first glance, anyone who is environmentally sensible will applaud such a program, for it seems to conduce to protecting enviroment. Nonetheless, analytical and cognitive thinking makes sure that it's neither necessary nor wise for the government to invest in such a project.
One who favors the speaker's assertion will perhaps find the two reasons, which I'll render below. After all, the government's responsibility is to insure the public health and safety, the national security, and finally to facilitate the development of the society, all of which lie largely in the healthy and sustained environment. However, with the advent of industrialization and globalization, we indeed develop, but at the same time sacrificing the environment. Thus, preserving publicly owned wilderness is an imminent task for the government, in order that these precious uncontaminated areas will not be suffered from human actions in the future. Another factor that supports the speaker's affirmation is that such a goal will be effective as these areas are often extremely remote and thus accessible to only a few people. Without the violation of the public, it will be easier for the government to carry on a myriad of measures and effectively protect the wilderness. In this respect, the speaker's contention makes sense.

Nevertheless, reflecting on these two reasons makes clear that in the long term it will be either counterproductive or irrelevant to the good intention of the government. Admittedly, the government should be held accountable to protect the environment; yet leaving the wilderness areas, as they should be is more meaningful. Even one doesn’t know concrete examples, one can deduce from common sense that it is our consumers' actions that make the environment a deteriorating one. History informs us that any place, no matter where in the world, will lose its integrity as long as human beings are involved in it. For supporting examples, one needs look no further than the tropic forests, which serve a central role in adjusting the global climate. Since mankind has invented high-efficient implement for deforestation, these ancient areas are disappearing at an astonishing speed from the old earth. After the evolvement for thousands of years, I believe these wilderness areas are able to protect themselves and develop autonomously without outside interference.
Considering the second reason supporting the speaker, we'll find it poses certain risks that are not easily perceptible. Since these areas are often extremely remote and accessible to only a few people, it will surely take a large amount of resources----money or human efforts to accomplish such a goal. Rather than spend our limited resources on preserving areas which can evolve autonomously, we should take into consideration other more impending social problems----such as hunger, unemployment, increasing rates of crimes, the epidemic of deadly diseases, etc. After all, these problems are around us and affecting our daily lives to a great extent. Accordingly, limited resources require priorities and choices. And I believe it's wise for the government to distribute the resources to solving social problems.

All of us should to mind, be informed and influenced by the behaviour and cultures in Asia and many other regions, where people do not focus entirely on their own material life today - but place themselves in the context of what has been and what will come, of several generations; ancestors, grandparents and parents . This side event should be seen in this perspective.
