Early Autumn
Dusk of Autumn, just before sunset.
What a lovely season for a stroll! The setting sun casted his shine over the city and decorated it a fancy one. Kittenish breeze was swinging the trees, so thousands of golden speckles were scattered on the boulevard.
It's when crossing the RM Square that he met her, whom he haven't seen for several years.
"Bill, Is that you?" she greeted.
He stopped his steps, and almost could not recognized her at the first sight, she was so gaunt with a wan smile.
They once fell in love when he was very young. He could not remember how many nights they passed together walking and talking under street lamps. But, eventually, they quarreled over a trifle and parted company. After that she married a guy whom she thought she got in love with, and Bill left with sadness she brought him.
"Mary! How are you doing?"
She raised her face for a kiss subconsciously, but he just hold out his hand.
"Just ok." she answered. There were something in her words
"Well." he smiled in a polite way.
"I always thought of you, Bill."
"Oh thanks, I'm a lawyer now, for a pretty good corporation just two blocks from here."
"Married?"
"Of course, and a lovely baby."
"Oh." she responded.
Lots of people passed by them, but they know none of them. The sun had vanished, breeze become somewhat chilly.
"How about your husband?" he asked.
"We got two children. I'm an accountant for a school."
"You looked very..." (He meant to say old)" ...well." he said.
She knew his meaning. Under the luxuriantly green trees of the RM Square, she could not help recalling the passed time. What a pretty and young college girl she was then, just a little older than him. But now he was still young, however she...
"I lived in West Park Road, maybe you could pay a visit sometime." said she
"It's my honor," he answered, "I'll choose an evening to drop in , with Lucy."
Leaves fell from trees one after another, flowed in breeze softly and landed silently. The dusk of early Autumn made her feel somewhat depressive.
"I expect you." she said.
"And you should have a look at my son." he said with smile. All the street lamps of the long boulevard came into shining at the same time. A line of dim light extended to the dark curtain of night.
"There comes the bus." she said.
He hold out his hands again, "Bye."
"When..."she wanted to go ahead, but the bus began to move. The glimmering lamb turned more obscure, she wished to say something but she couldn't.
"See you!" she screamed suddenly, but the door of the bus had been closed.
The bus was pulled out the stop. Crowd out of the bus were walking between them, but they know none of them. Bill had been out of sight, other people still hurried their own business. Just at this moment, she remembered she had forgotten to leave him her address, and had not asked his as well. Moreover, she had forgotten to tell him that she named her junior son by Bill.
