一两者在词性上区别

1. arouse英音： [ə'rauz]   美音： [ə'rauz]

只能做动词    vt. 唤醒, 唤起, 鼓励, 引起         vi. 睡醒

例句Their persecution only serves to arouse the opposition of the people.                                                

他们的迫害只激起人民对他们的反抗.

We must arouse them to fight for their own emancipation.                                                

我们必须唤起他们为其自身的解放而斗争.

2.rouse 英音：[rauz]    美音：[rauz]
除了做动词，还能做名词     v. 唤醒, 激起, 使振奋, 惊起      n. 觉醒, 奋起

二两者作动词区别

1. arouse是作“激起”或“唤起”讲。除表示一般的唤醒外，多作引申用。

   如，arouse one’s interest / sympathy“唤起某人的兴趣 / 同情心”
   Their terrible suffering aroused our pity.他们的苦难激起我们的同情。

2.rouse则是“唤醒”或“惊起”的意思。用主动语态时，强调弄醒别人的努力，用被动语态时，指轻而易举地醒过来。可用于引申意义。

例：I was roused by the sound of the alarm.我被闹铃的声音吵醒。
Every tent roused by that damour dread.-Shelly.每个营帐里的人都 被那个可怖的喊声唤醒。

The news roused great indignation.这条消息引起了极大的愤慨。

3.  rouse表“激起”，语气比arouse强，常有“积极行动”的意思。

arouse表“引起”，动作意味较弱。

比较:The sound of the guns aroused them.枪炮声惊醒了他们。(从睡 梦中惊醒过来)

The sound of the guns roused them.枪炮声唤醒了他们。(作好行动的准备)

通常是使用一个抽象的词作为一个对象:可以引起某人的兴趣,他的怀疑,他的同情,等等。

arise、rise、rouse、arouse、raise的区分：

arise（arose，arisen）

1 occur“发生”，例：Problems arose from the outset.一开始就产生了很多问题。

2 arise from“起源于”，例：Accidents always arise from the carelessness.许多事故都源于粗心。derive from=originate from“起因于，追本溯源”，例：Many English words derive from Latin.许多英语都来自于拉丁语。

rise（rose，risen）

v.“上升”，（一定是不及物的）

n.“上升，上涨”

give rise to=lead to引起，例：The food shortage gave rise to the serious problems.食品的短缺引起了严重的问题。

rouse“唤醒”，例：I was roused by the sound of the alarm.我被闹铃的声音吵醒。

arouse“唤起”，如，arouse one’s interest / sympathy“唤起某人的兴趣 / 同情心”
