Sons and Lovers begins his first step of adjusting relation between men and women in order to explore combining world. The novel has been described the Morels’ happiness and agony going through, has shown Paul's growth course emphatically .The story plot of the novel is always in the secondary position, each incident serves for building that kind of nervous and confronting relation between men and women. Such tense relation mainly reflects among the Morels, between Paul and mother, Paul and Miriam, Paul and Clara .All love is odd-shaped, one-sided in the novel, odd-shaped ,either the love of the simple human body, or the love of the simple spirit ,I.e. incomplete love, it must result in unfortunate and failure of love and marriage .
First, the love between Morels
Morel was an ordinary miner of society of lower floor, and Mrs. Morel was born from a prestigious middle-class family. Though Morel had not received an education in anything, but he" Permeated with flourishing vigor all over, natural and graceful, the words often had a kind of peculiar drama result ".She came to like him .Morel was fascinated by the pleasant girl too .They got married on Christmas Day second year ."In the first six months after marriage, she lived a very happy life ".(P11) But their difference and contradiction had been exposed soon .Because Mrs. Morel was specially born in the middle class family ,had received higher education ,"She was pleased to discuss the religion , philosophy or political issue with the man who had knowledge "(P10)She was unable to well exchange with vulgar husband ,"All sorts of efforts to link up the emotion were all useless time "(P12) After their first child was born, Morel had neglected his wife gradually ."That kind of fresh feeling while just getting married had already passed out of existence, began the fierce fight of a life-and-death among couple."(P14) Presented a kind of cold war between the Morels. This cold war had influenced the growing up normally of children too They hate father and were hostile toward him. Morel only drank sorrow down, he went to the public house to drink after coming off duty every day. Going to the restaurant had 0become an indispensable part in his life .He no longer had any status in the family, just a machine earning money.
