Basra (Arabic: البصرة‎ translit: al-Baṣrah) Basra (also spelt Basara) is a city of Iraq. Basra是伊拉克的城市

is the second largest city of Iraq with an estimated population of c. 1,600,000 (2005). It is the country's main port. Basra is the capital of the Basra Governorate. The city is located along the Shatt al-Arab (Arvandrood) waterway near the Persian Gulf. Basra is 55 km from the Persian Gulf and 545 km from Baghdad, Iraq's capital and largest city.

The area surrounding Basra has substantial petroleum resources with many oil wells. The city also has an international airport, which recently began restored service to Baghdad with Iraqi Airways - the nation's flag airline. Basra is in a fertile agricultural region, with major products including rice, maize corn, barley, millet, wheat, dates, and livestock. The city's oil refinery has a production capacity of about 140,000 barrels a day (22,300 m³).

Muslim adherents of the area are primarily members of the Jafari Shi`a sect. A sizeable number from the Sunni sect also live in Basra as well as a small number of Christians. Living among them are also the remnants of the pre-Islamic gnostic sect of Mandaeans, whose headquarters were in the area formerly called Suk esh-Sheikh.

A network of canals flowed through the city, giving it the nickname "The Venice of the Middle East" at least at high tide. The tides at Basra fall by about 9 feet (2.7 m). For a long time, Basra grew the finest dates in the world.

Basara is the name of a Japanese anime show. Basara是一个日本的动画的名字

Basara (バサラ) is the name of a manga, and later an anime, written by Yumi Tamura. The manga consists of 27 volumes; the anime follows only part of the manga story, and cuts off after 13 episodes. In North America, the manga is published by Viz Communications in English.

The story takes place in a future Japan, reduced to a barren desert by a catastrophe at the end of the 20th century. The main character is Sarasa, a girl whose twin brother, Tatara, is prophecied to be the "child of fate" (运命の子供 or 运命の少年) who will bring back the country's wealth and abundance. When Tatara is killed, Sarasa pretends to be him in order to keep the downtrodden from losing hope.

Overview

Basara has been described (including by its English-translation editor) as a highly Shakespearean story.

Within the manga, Sasara undergoes extreme psychological strain for having to pretend to be a boy. As such, she often visits hot springs to 'let her hair down.' During these visits, she runs into a mysterious figure called "Shuri," and they both fall in love with each other.

Unknown to Sasara, "Shuri" is really the Red King. The Red King is also unaware of the fact that Sasara, in her alter ego, is the rebel leader he is trying to kill. As the story progresses, the two's relationship deepens as their struggle becomes more bloody.
