The environmental pollution caused by the progress of science, the development of economy, the improvement of living standard, and immoderate depletion of resources has become a threat to everyone’s life. Consequently, people should take measures such as planting trees, restricting the drainage and poisonous gas, enhancing people’s awareness of environmental pollution and enact efficient laws against industrial and agricultural pollution to protect our environment.
Firstly, planting trees can help the equilibrium of ecology, the freshness of air and also reduce the noise pollution as well as the sandstorm. As we know, leaves can absorb the dust in the air, and some of them even perform an important function of monitoring the air pollution. Thus, we should plant trees as many as possible in the backyards or beside the streets so as to keep the environment around us from pollution. Moreover, people should set up natural protective region and forestation in order to keep the water and soil in place and also reduce the loss of the flood disaster. Secondly, drainage and poisonous gas should be sternly restrained, especially in the cities. Nowadays, since the living standard has been improved on a large scale, there are more and more vehicles that may give out nasty tail gas. Besides, in the interest of saving expense, many factories don’t deal with the drainage and poisonous gas that they create. According to this, people should take steps to dispose of those contaminations. Personally, one should make sure that the pollution check for one’s family car is done at regular intervals and use only unleaded petrol. In addition, cars should, as far as possible, be fitted with catalytic converter. Thirdly, enhancing people’s awareness of protecting the environment is also very important. Environmental issues often seem too big for people to do anything about. Actually, there is plenty we can do as long as we are resolved to focus closer to our environment. Simple measures such as restraining from expectorating or littering at random in public places, minimizing waste when packaging and wrapping gifts can help the environment. In the last place, the government should enact laws against industrial and agricultural pollution. Only in the control of the government, the farmers and the management of the factories will engage themselves to take steps to deal with the hazardous waste and chemicals.
The earth has nourished us for millions of years. But what do we do to it? Yet, with the destruction of the environment from our consumption and industry, we are not only endangering ourselves but also the future of our descendants.
