先行用法

先行用法是指it是一个虚词，根据语法的需要，作形式主语或宾语。它所代表的真正主语或宾语位于谓语或它的后面。

（1）指代不定式。

【例】

How long does it take to travel from Beijing to Shanghai.

It is impossible for them to start before ten.

（2）指代动词-ing形式。

以 It's no use, It's no good等开头的句子常以-ing分词作真正主语。

【例】

It's no good crying over spilt milk.

It's no use trying to persuade him.

（3）指代名词性从句。

【例】

It is certain that he will win.

It is pity that you didn't see such a good film.

4）无人称用法

无人称it在句中作主语或宾语。此时，it无任何具体意义，是一个毫无所指的形式主语或宾语。

（1）用于表示自然现象、时间、距离、环境等。

【例】

Is it cold in this room? No,it isn't.

How far is it to Beijing?

It's all over.

（2）用于以连系动词seem,appear,look,happen等作谓语，后接一个that从句的句中。

【例】

It seems that he is always correct.

It appears that she is an experienced teacher.

（3）用于一些习惯用语中。

【例】

It makes no difference at all.

It hard to say.
